American company Viatris takes Viagra off the Russian market: Ministry
Russia currently has the technological capability to manufacture drugs containing INN sildenafil at various stages, including the full cycle, including pharmaceutical substance synthesis.
Moscow: The American pharmaceutical company Viatris notifies Russia's Industry and Trade Ministry about suspending supplies of the drug Viagra in pill form to Russia.
The drug with the trade name "Viagra" corresponds to the international non-proprietary name (INN) sildenafil and is not produced on the territory of Russia. In 2022, Viatris informed about the suspension of the supply of the Viagra pill form. To ensure local production of the drug, Russian authorities supported the launch and conduct of clinical trials of the drug with INN sildenafil in pill form, which was registered and is now widely used.
According to Russia's state medicine register, 36 companies have 49 registration certificates for drugs with the specified INN. In physical terms, the volume of these drugs produced increased by more than 11% between January and September 2022. According to the Industry and Trade Ministry, sales of this drug increased by more than 15% during the reporting period.
