India and Armenia have concurred to sign two agreements in the field of healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.

The developments came after Armenia’s participation in One Earth One Health – Advantage Healthcare India 2023 summit, organized by the Indian Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in association with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry with India’s G20 Presidency, in New Delhi on 26th and 27th April.

“Armenia is looking forward to fostering partnerships in healthcare services with India” said Anahit Avanesyan, the Health Minister of Armenia as she attended the summit, which aimed to showcase India as a hub for medical value travel as well as to promote the country’s exports of medical services. The summit was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Health ministers as well as foreign delegates from over 70 countries in West Asia, SAARC, the Commonwealth of Independent States, ASEAN, and Africa, including Armenia, participated in the summit. The Armenian Health Minster chaired the first session of the summit titled "Focusing on Partnership and Cooperation".

“The agreements with India in the healthcare sector will open a new chapter in the cooperation between the two countries”, said a press release issued by the Armenian Healthcare Ministry on 3rd May.

The details of the two agreements emerged after the meeting of the Armenian Health Minister with the Indian Ambassador to Armenia Nilakshi Saha Sinha.

One agreement, as reported by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, is related to Armenia’s pharmaceutics potential, which may be attractive for India, including in terms of entering the Eurasian Economic Union market, an economic union of some post-Soviet states located in Eurasia.

The second agreement to be signed between India and Armenia is about cooperation in public health and medical science. "The level of political dialogue between our countries is very high. I hope that your mission to Armenia will also contribute to the implementation of this potential in specific areas,” said Avanesyan during her meeting with Sinha.

They also discussed opportunities for the development of medical tourism, access to transplant services, and exchange of experience of specialists, as reported by the Armenian Health Ministry.

The delegation’s visit during the two-day healthcare summit also saw a memorandum of understanding (MOU) being signed between India’s Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, a multinational healthcare group comprising of hospital chain, pharmacies, diagnostic centers and clinics among other healthcare services, and Armenia’s St. Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center in Yerevan as well as the National Center of Oncology after V.A.Fanarjyan, a comprehensive cancer care hospital in Armenia. "As a result of this MOU, opportunities for wide cooperation and exchange of professional experience will be created between these medical centers", said the Armenian Ministry.
