According to the ministry's press centre, Medco International LLC sent a thousand insulin packages to Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Health as a humanitarian aid for diabetic children.

The project was organised through the collaboration of the ministry's and the company's management. The humanitarian assistance will be distributed to children throughout the country. The Ministry of Health also held a tender for the purchase of insulin, with the first batch expected to arrive soon.

In early March, parents of children with type 1 diabetes contacted the new 24.kg agency. They complained that their insulin supplies had run out. Children were being switched to insulin designed for adults, which has serious consequences.

According to the department, the limited supply of drugs such as Levemir and NovoRapid was observed only in Bishkek, where there is a high level of internal migration of diabetic patients. The aforementioned drugs are widely available in the regions. Gulnara Baatyrova, the Minister of Health, admitted that the government does not spend enough money to provide insulin to the population.

It was reported in April that patients with type 2 diabetes in the capital could not obtain Protaphane due to a shortage.

Last year, Kyrgyzstan faced the same issue. Patients began to complain about a lack of insulin in May. The Ministry attributed the drug's supply delay to an increase in shipment terms by the manufacturing plant itself, as well as a disruption in the tender in February.
