The government has set a final compliance deadline of April 30, 2026, for hospitals empanelled under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), making it clear that non-compliant facilities will be removed from the network thereafter.
The revised deadline comes as an extension from the earlier March 31 cut-off, offering hospitals additional time to complete mandatory requirements, including the execution of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). The extension follows operational challenges faced by hospitals during the transition to the upgraded HEM 2.0 digital platform, which aims to bring greater transparency and efficiency to the empanelment process.
Despite the extension, authorities have indicated that no further relaxation will be provided. Hospitals that fail to meet the compliance requirements by the end of April will be de-empanelled from May 1, losing eligibility to treat CGHS beneficiaries and submit claims under the scheme. Any re-entry into the network would require a fresh application.
The move reflects a broader push to streamline processes and strengthen accountability within the CGHS ecosystem, which serves central government employees, pensioners, and other eligible groups. Empanelment remains a critical factor for hospitals, influencing patient inflow and access to reimbursements.
The ongoing digitisation effort is expected to improve transparency and reduce administrative inefficiencies, although the transition phase has temporarily slowed processing timelines. Alongside these changes, the government has also updated CGHS package rates and reinforced compliance measures aimed at improving service delivery standards across empanelled hospitals.
With the deadline approaching, hospitals are under increasing pressure to complete all formalities or risk losing access to one of the country’s most significant government-backed healthcare networks.
