The World Health Organization's (WHO) member states have approved the budget for the next two years. The planned amount of funds was $6.83 billion. According to Reuters, this figure includes a 20% increase in mandatory contributions.

The WHO budget for 2024-2025 was not objected to by any of the participating countries. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the organization's CEO, called the move "historic" and "an important milestone."

"We don't take this lightly, we don't take it for granted, and we will do our best to make our organisation better," he said.

Earlier in May, the WHO decided to close the Moscow office for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases, which had been in operation since December 1998. Its functions will be transferred to a Copenhagen office until the end of 2023.

According to Russian Federation Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, Russia should maintain relations with the WHO because it is an important international platform for information exchange.
