The efficiency of law on protecting the health of the population from the consequences of tobacco consumption, nicotine and exposure to second hand smoke was discussed in Bishkek on May 16.

Participants in the meeting discussed strengthening oversight of authorities on a total ban on smoking in public places. It should be noted that electronic cigarettes and vapes can be harmful to one's health because they contain nicotine and other potentially harmful substances.

According to the Department of State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance, noncommunicable diseases kill 41 million people each year, accounting for 71% of all deaths worldwide. Low- and middle-income countries account for 85% of all such deaths. Cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes mellitus account for the majority of NCD-related mortality. These four disease groups account for 80% of all NCD-related premature deaths.

Tolo Isakov, a public health doctor with the Department of State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance, stated that using vapes can be more dangerous than smoking regular cigarettes because the e-liquid contains glycerin, propylene glycol, aromatic additives, and nicotine, which can cause more harm to the body due to the increased frequency of smoking.
