On September 11, 2024, Armenia took center stage as the “Crossroads of Business Opportunities” event unfolded at the Seven Visions Hotel in Yerevan. Organized by Enterprise Armenia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the gathering highlighted Armenia’s strategic importance as a transport and logistics hub at the junction of Europe and Asia. 

The event attracted a diverse group of representatives from the EU, US, Gulf States, Central Asia, and EAEU members, all exploring investment prospects in Armenia’s transportation, logistics, and agricultural sectors. The focus was clear: Armenia’s advantageous location makes it an essential player in regional connectivity and trade. 

In his opening remarks, Levon Ohanesyan, General Director of Enterprise Armenia, welcomed attendees, setting the tone for the day. The Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, followed with a speech emphasizing Armenia’s potential for foreign investments. “Armenia is ready to embrace new business opportunities and pave the way for greater regional connectivity,” Papoyan stated. 

Armenia’s Strategic Investment Projects 

A central highlight was the keynote presentation on Armenia’s strategic advantages, particularly spotlighting the Gyumri “Dry Port” project. The presentation underscored Armenia’s efforts to attract foreign investors by promoting its favorable business environment. 

Deputy Minister Armen Simonyan introduced the “Crossroads of Peace” project, an ambitious initiative aiming to cement Armenia’s position as a key logistics hub. He described it as “a pathway to not just economic growth but also regional peace and cooperation.” 

Panel Discussion on Transport and Sustainability 

The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Gohar Galyan, Investment Director of Enterprise Armenia. Key participants included Narek Hovakimyan, Deputy Minister of Economy, Luke Fochtman from the Asian Development Bank, and Dmitry Maryasin from UNECE. 

The experts deliberated on Armenia’s potential as a transport hub, with discussions focusing on enhancing the competitiveness of Armenian exports, reducing transportation costs, and unlocking new economic opportunities. Panelists also examined the critical role of international agreements and infrastructure projects in attracting foreign investment. 

The panel concluded by highlighting the significance of green transport and sustainability in the modernization of Armenia’s logistics sector. 

Boosting International Trade and Connectivity 

The event concluded with a networking session, where Armenian businesses and international stakeholders discussed collaborative opportunities. With Armenia emerging as one of the fastest-growing economies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the event further solidified its role as a key player in global trade and investment. Armenia’s strategic location and proactive approach to sustainable development are drawing increased attention from global partners. 

The event, part of the larger Yerevan Dialogue 2024, positioned Armenia as a gateway to new business ventures, cementing its relevance in the global economic landscape. 

With a clear focus on innovation, sustainability, and economic integration, Armenia is leveraging its strategic position to foster international partnerships. As the country embraces new challenges, collaborations with key players, including India, are shaping a future marked by growth, dialogue, and global stability.
