In Russia, sales of anti-COVID-19 medications fell by 31%

In Russia, 37.2 million packages of anti-coronavirus drugs were sold in the first quarter of 2023. According to the Advanced Technologies Development Centre (operator of the Chestny Znak digital marking system), this is 31% less than the same period the previous year (54.1 million packs).

In monetary terms, the indicator for January-March 2023 was 15.6 billion rubles, while it was 25.8 billion rubles in 2022 (a 39% decrease year on year). Anticoronavirus drugs are most commonly purchased in the regions of Primorsky Krai (3.321 thousand packs per 10,000 inhabitants), Magadan (3.261 thousand), and Tyumen (3.26 thousand).

In April 2023, the N. F. Gamalei Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology reported the discovery of arcturus, a new subvariant of the virus, in COVID-19 patients in Moscow. According to scientists, this species has additional mutations in its genome that increase the contagiousness of the disease caused.
