Kazakhstan has launched the 'MADE IN PHARMA KZ' project with an aim to increase domestic production of medicines and medical devices to 50% by 2025. According to experts, the project will also help to consolidate the work of the country's specialised associations and spur the development of new joint ventures. There are currently over 30 enterprises in Kazakhstan's pharmaceutical industry whose activities meet the standard of good practise. Over 100 long-term contracts have been signed with pharmaceutical manufacturers to supply more than 4,672 items of medicine.

"At the moment, the minimum standard for equipping medical and obstetric centres, medical stations and family outpatient clinics may be fully equipped with domestic products, from medical furniture to electrocardiographs, blood glucose measuring devices, lipidometers, and many others. The Association's members' products will be actively defined within these model projects," said Ruslan Nurmukhanov, Chairperson of the Union of Domestic Manufacturers of Medical Devices and Medical Products.

"The project is primarily planned to export domestic medications produced in Kazakhstan to neighbouring countries since large corporations are unlikely to set up the same production in multiple countries. Because Kazakhstan was chosen, we must create all of the conditions, offer best practises, and prepare domestic manufacturers for these productions," SK-Pharmacy Chairperson Yerkhat Iskaliyev stated.
