Lilavati Hospital Charts Global Expansion, to Launch Super-Speciality OPD in Kazakhstan

Lilavati Hospital is set to take its healthcare expertise beyond India with the launch of a super-speciality outpatient department (OPD) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, marking the beginning of its international expansion strategy.
The facility is expected to commence operations in early September 2026 and will provide patients in Kazakhstan and the wider Central Asian region access to specialist consultations, second opinions, treatment planning and clinical expertise from Lilavati Hospital.
The new centre will offer services across several advanced medical specialties, including oncology, liver and hepatobiliary care, kidney transplantation, cardiac sciences, neurology and neurosurgery, IVF and reproductive medicine, among others. Patients requiring complex procedures or advanced surgical intervention will be connected to Lilavati Hospital’s Mumbai facility for further treatment.
The Kazakhstan initiative is the hospital’s first step towards establishing a broader international healthcare footprint. According to Dr Ravindra Karanjekar, CEO, Lilavati Hospital, the institution is evaluating opportunities across multiple overseas markets, including Uzbekistan, Oman, Mauritius and Sri Lanka.
The proposed international expansion could take different forms, including greenfield and brownfield projects as well as collaborations with local governments. However, Lilavati has not disclosed details regarding the investment involved or the specific structure of its Kazakhstan partnership. The hospital has clarified that the expansion does not involve private equity funding.
Expanding footprint in India
Alongside its international ambitions, Lilavati Hospital is also pursuing an aggressive domestic expansion programme. The healthcare group is developing a 300-bed cancer care hospital in Ahmedabad, while projects are also being planned in Indore and New Delhi.
The hospital expects these initiatives to be rolled out over the next two years. Over a longer five-year horizon, Lilavati is targeting the addition of around 3,000 beds to its overall portfolio.
Karanjekar said the decision to venture overseas followed a period of consolidation and stabilisation of the hospital’s operations in India. With that foundation in place, the organisation is now looking at opportunities both within the country and international markets.
While international healthcare expansion presents operational and regulatory challenges, the hospital views it as a long-term growth opportunity. The Kazakhstan OPD is therefore positioned not merely as an overseas facility, but as the first step in Lilavati Hospital’s broader ambition to build a presence across Central Asia and other international markets.
