More than 500 preclinical and clinical drug trials have been conducted in Moscow over the last three years. The mayor of the city, Sergei Sobyanin, announced this in his blog, adding that the capital has been the flagship of "these scientific research" in Russia for more than 20 years.

"The city has an entire ecosystem for scientists." Pharmaceutical companies can choose from about 90 hospitals and polyclinics for their research," he said, adding that the system's operation is supported by the Moscow Centre for Innovative Technologies in Healthcare.

Earlier, Moscow Vice Mayor Anastasia Rakova stated that seven pharmaceutical companies have applied to the city for drug trials since September 2022. They presented 16 of their innovations in total. Nine of them have already been assigned to research centres.

According to Veronika Skvortsova, the head of the FMBA of Russia, clinical trials of vaccines against pneumococcal and meningococcal infections are scheduled to begin in 2023.
