In 2022, the Social Policy Committee formed a working group on public health, which reached several conclusions for teen smoking. Schoolchildren can easily purchase electronic cigarettes, according to MP Aida Isatbek kyzy during a Parliament session.
She emphasised the growing popularity of vapes and electronic cigarettes among young people, emphasising that many of them are perceived as distinct from traditional cigarettes. This perception, however, is incorrect because company policies and quality control of these products are unknown, especially since 80% of e-cigarettes in Kyrgyzstan are imported from China.
To address this issue, the MP proposed a number of measures for state agencies to consider, including: ensuring the inclusion of health warnings on the packaging of electronic cigarettes, similar to those on regular cigarettes; strengthening enforcement of the law prohibiting smoking in public places; increasing excise taxes on smoking substances; regulating and reducing depictions of smoking scenes in the media and on social networks; and intensifying efforts to prohibit the sale of cigarettes to individuals.
