The Scientific Research Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants has decided to restart production of the antiviral drug Flacoside, which was developed in 1979, according to Gazeta.ru, citing the Russian Federation's Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Only the active substance, flacoside, is currently listed in the State Register of Medicines. The dosage is to be reintroduced to the market in the form of tablets.
Flacoside is a pharmaceutical substance derived from the leaves of the Amur corktree. The medication is designed to prevent and treat a variety of viral infections, including hepatitis A, B, and C, acute herpes simplex and recurrent herpes of various localizations, chickenpox, and measles.
Employees of the Institute completed research on improving the technology for obtaining the substance and worked with AO Vifitech to produce experimental batches.
The domestic pharmaceutical industry imports 75% of the pharmaceutical substances it requires, primarily from China. The situation must change in the next ten years, according to the Pharma 2030 programme.
