BioVitrina, Russia's new online resource, is an electronic database of biological samples from cancer patients. According to Izvestia, the service was developed at the world-class research center "Digital Biodesign and Personalized Healthcare."
BioVitrina can be used to view and analyze data from patients' tissues, plasma, and blood serum. Each donor of a biological sample is given a personal account on the website, where test results are saved. The information can be further used to guide therapy selection.
According to the website's creators, the overall goal of BioVitrina is to aid in the study of antitumor drugs and the fundamentals of cancer's origin. The search for volunteers and medical partners for experiments can complicate research. BioVitrina will allow researchers to quickly create samples for experiments while also providing a large amount of data.
In 2022, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed legislation allowing pharmaceutical companies to receive grants for the development of standard samples of vital and essential medicines. According to the document, the creation of the resource will aid in the introduction of quality control of VED at all stages of their circulation.
