The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has provided an update on an experiment involving the remote sale of prescription drugs in three regions of the country. Although the project has not been fully launched yet, the ministry considers it to be a promising initiative.
Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Pavel Pugachev, mentioned that they regularly meet with participants involved in the experiment on the remote sale of prescription drugs. The ministry plans to expand the project to three regions on a full scale, as they see great potential in its implementation. He shared this information with TASS during SPIEF-2023.
The experiment, which began on March 1, 2023, will continue until March 1, 2026, and is currently being conducted in Moscow, Moscow region, and Belgorod region. Pharmacies that have the capability to sell medicines online are eligible to participate. The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has approved a list of 904 international non-proprietary names of medicines that can be sold through this platform. The list includes antibiotics, drugs for treating diabetes, hypertension, and bronchial asthma.
However, the list excludes medications containing ethyl alcohol, strong narcotics, psychotropic drugs, and those that require supervision by a doctor.
Mikhail Murashko, the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, emphasized that this pilot project aims to establish effective communication between doctors, pharmacy organizations, and patients. It is crucial to remember that prescription drugs necessitate special attention, strict adherence to storage and dispensing rules, and adherence to the prescribed treatment regimen as directed by the doctor. Murashko stated this earlier to highlight the importance of maintaining proper protocols even in a remote sale setup.
