Torrent Group, the Ahmedabad-based power and pharmaceutical conglomerate, is making a significant push into the hospital healthcare sector with plans to establish a large multispecialty facility in Gujarat’s largest city. Through its arm, Torrent Hospitals Private Limited, the company has initiated project filings for a hospital with more than 500 beds along SP Ring Road, with the investment pegged at over ₹750 crore.
Spanning a land parcel of nearly 13,900 square metres and a planned built-up area of around 95,800 square metres, the new hospital is slated to become one of Ahmedabad’s major private healthcare developments. According to disclosures, the facility is anticipated to generate employment for roughly 2,400 people across clinical, administrative and support roles once it becomes operational.
The land for the project was acquired in mid-2025 from Safal Constructions India Private Limited for ₹247 crore, underscoring Torrent’s long-term commitment to strengthening its presence in the broader healthcare ecosystem.
Torrent’s move into full-scale hospital services builds on its earlier expansion into patient-facing healthcare. In 2022, the group set up Torrent Diagnostics Private Limited, marking its first step beyond pharmaceuticals into diagnostics and outpatient care, laying the groundwork for this larger tertiary care offering.
The project is currently progressing through regulatory channels, including statutory and zoning clearances. Its timing aligns with a broader surge in corporate investment in Ahmedabad’s healthcare infrastructure, fuelled by rising insurance penetration, higher incomes and increasing demand for integrated medical services under one roof.
Ahmedabad has become a magnet for large healthcare investments in recent years, with several groups advancing new hospitals or expanding existing facilities, reinforcing the city’s status as a growing medical hub in western India.
